Degree programs

Master of Divinity (MDiv) – The training of ministers for the Reformed Church of Hungary is an unidivided one-cycle 12-semester (360 CTS) full-time program. The training consists of 10 semesters of academic training. The 11th and 12th semesters involve a 1-year internship, practical and academic training, and submitting a master thesis.

Master of Theological Studies (MThS) – A master program (undivided one-cycle) designed for those not wishing to enter the ministry as ordained ministers, but to be equipped with theological knowledge at academic level. (The curriculum follows that of the MDiv program with the exception of the pratical module.)

Master of Theology (MTh) – The purpose of the program is to train intellectuals who by doing theology at a high level can become involved in the spiritual leadership of individual churches and religious communities. It prepares students for further academic work with ecumenical openness. It basically satisfies the measurable demand in which it focuses on the theological specificities of Christian cultural history and Christian ethics. A 4-semester (120 ECTS) full-time program designed especially for international students.

Catechist (Teacher of Religion) – Pastoral Assistant (BA) – The training of teachers of religious education and workers for the ministry is a 6-semester (180 ECTS) full-time or part-time program. The part-time program is available in two locations: Sárospatak (HU), Beregszász/Beregovo (UA).

Reformed Church Community’s Organizer (BA) – Students can specialize in the following fields: 1) General Community’s Organizer; 2) Mission among the Roma; 3) Diaconia (Church Social Work); 4) Hymnology (Church Music). A 6-semester (180 ECTS) part-time program.

Diaconia / Christian Social Work (BA) – The aim of the program is to train Christian social workers who, based on Christian values and in the spirit of the Gospel, are able to provide assistance to their fellow human beings in need in a holistic approach. They are prepared to contribute to addressing inequalities caused by social tensions and are able to cooperate in an inter-professional way with professionals working in the various fields of the social and health care institutions of the state, local authorities, churches and non-governmental organizations. The Christian social worker has skills and competences that help him/her to develop the problem-solving ability of individuals, families and communities, to support the social integration of individuals and their communities, and to facilitate desirable cooperation. Graduates with a BA in Diaconia have the opportunity to find employment according to their qualifications and competences, or to continue their studies in a master’s programme. The training meets the national and international professional standards for social training, and is in line with the requirements for social and diaconal qualifications in the European region. A 7-semester (210 ECTS) part-time program.

Social Work (BA) – The aim of the program is to train social workers who are prepared, by applying social theories of human behavior and social systems, to do social work that is based on human rights and social justice, social integration and the strengthening of democratic conditions. They are able to develop and preserve harmony between humans and their social environment, to prevent and professionally deal with social tensions and social problems. Furthermore, they have sufficient theoretical knowledge to continue their training in the second cycle. A 7-semester (210 ECTS) part-time program.
